Texas Football: 4-Star 2025 TE Bear Tenney planning visit this fall

Tight end is a priority position for Texas football in the 2025 recruiting class. The depth at the tight end position will likely be thin for Texas and S/T coordinator/TE coach Jeff Banks in 2024 with the anticipated departure of standout junior tight end JT Sanders.

An early priority for Banks and the Longhorns in the 2025 class at the tight end position is the highly touted Lucas (TX) Lovejoy four-star Bear Tenney. The 6-foot-5 and 225-pound tight end Tenney is firmly on Texas’ radar after moving from Arizona to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex ahead of the start of his junior season of high school football.

Since Tenney is now right up I-35 from Austin, the Longhorns are looking to make a big move with Tenney heading into the fall.

Texas made the top 12 for Tenney, which he announced on social media on Aug. 14. Tenney also tweeted that his commitment is “coming soon”.

The other schools that made up the top dozen for Tenney are the Auburn Tigers, Colorado Buffaloes, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee Volunteers, Utah Utes, and USC Trojans.

Tenney looking to make a return visit for a Texas game this fall

Tenney made his first visit to Texas unofficially for the spring game on April 15. He had a great experience visiting Texas for the spring game in mid-April. Tenney said after the spring game visit to Texas that the experience for the Orange-White Game was “awesome”. He also said he loves how “Banks uses his tight ends”.

Moreover, Tenney told Inside Texas this week (paid content) that he intends to make it to a couple of Longhorns’ games before announcing his commitment. He mentioned that he will return to Texas “in the next couple of months”.

Tenney is one of the top tight ends on the board in the 2025 class for the Longhorns early in the cycle. Some other top tight end offers to watch for Banks and the Longhorns early on in the 2025 class are Southlake Carroll four-star Jack VanDorselaer and Alpharetta (GA) four-star Ethan Barbour.
