Texas football trending for 5-Star DL priority Dominick McKinley
We’ve recently mentioned multiple times on the site that Texas is in as good of a spot as anyone among McKinley’s top schools to get his commitment on Sep. 1. There are even more encouraging signs this week that favor Texas to land McKinley’s commitment on Sep. 1 over other top schools in this recruitment such as the Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies.
Inside Texas recruiting insider Justin Wells entered an On3 RPM pick on Aug. 18, projecting McKinley’s commitment to Texas. Wells entered his RPM pick with 6.5 out of 10 confidence.
Texas also got a 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction from Horns247 insider Hank South on Aug. 4 to land McKinley’s commitment.
Relationships and academics have Texas in a good spot for McKinley
Texas’ combination of a strong football program and academic prowess appeals to McKinley and his family. It’s also a factor working in Texas’ favor that the university is a drivable distance for the Lafayette, LA, native McKinley and his family.
Defensive line coach Bo Davis has a great relationship with McKinley and his family. Texas impressed McKinley and his camp during the late-June official visit. Davis and the Longhorns also knocked it out of the park during McKinley’s first visit to Austin, an unofficial trip for the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21.
During the summer, McKinley has also officially visited Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Ohio State.
McKinley is the top remaining 2024 DL priority for Texas
Hands down, McKinley is the top priority along the defensive line for the Longhorns in the 2024 class late this summer. Texas already has three defensive linemen committed to the 2024 class, Orlando (FL) Jones four-star D’antre Robinson, Duncanville four-star Alex January, and Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) three-star Melvin Hills.
