Texas football having ‘productive conversations’ with 5-Star Ryan Wingo
The top priority at wide receiver for Texas football in the 2024 class heading into the fall is the elite St. Louis University (MO) five-star Ryan Wingo. The No. 2 wide receiver in the 2024 class in the Top247 has Texas among his top schools as he reportedly considers moving up his decision timeline from the initial Dec. 20 date.
Regardless, head coach Steve Sarkisian and new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson will recruit Wingo through the finish line on signing day in mid-December.
Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns are showing Wingo how much of a priority he is for them in the 2024 class with the constant communication between the two parties heading into the fall. Texas has remained in constant communication with Wingo since his mid-June official visit to Austin.
Communication remains strong between Texas football and 5-Star WR Ryan Wingo
And it sounds like the communication between Texas’ staff and Wingo continues to be positive and consistent. Inside Texas reported on Aug. 18 (paid content) that Texas’ staff continues to have “productive conversations” with Wingo late this summer.
Mizzou has momentum in this recruitment
Texas is trying to stave off the momentum the Mizzou Tigers are building on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class recently. After landing a commitment from the No. 1 ranked defensive lineman in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite, five-star Lee’s Summit South product Williams Nwaneri, Mizzou is heating up on the recruiting trail.
But Texas and the Tennessee Volunteers remain heavily involved in this recruitment. Wingo is scheduled to make an unofficial visit to Texas for the matchup at home at DKR on Sep. 16 against the Wyoming Cowboys. That will be Wingo’s first visit to Austin since the mid-June official.
Wingo is also set to take an unofficial visit on Sep. 30 to see Tennessee for its matchup at Neyland Stadium against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Wingo hasn’t officially moved off the Dec. 20 commitment date
While Wingo hasn’t officially decided to move up his decision timeline, it sounds like he’s on the brink of moving it up earlier in the fall. Assuming he does move up his decision timeline, it would obviously benefit Texas if he sets a decision date for late September.
Getting one of the final in-person visits before a hypothetical commitment date is moved up officially for Wingo allows the Longhorns to punch back with Mizzou gaining recent momentum in this recruitment.
