If there was a Longhorns player that had to be named the MVP of the two fall scrimmages in the last two weekends, it would go to true freshman cornerback Malik Muhammad. The 6-foot and 180-pound corner out of South Oak Cliff High School in South Dallas has made plays all over the field in the two fall scrimmages.

Last weekend, Muhammad had a pick-six on redshirt freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy that he took back for roughly 20 yards to the end zone. He also had a forced fumble in last weekend’s scrimmage.

In this weekend’s scrimmage, Muhammad continued to make plays by forcing turnovers. Muhammad reportedly forced another fumble in today’s scrimmage.

Muhammad is the most consistent presence and biggest playmaker at cornerback for Texas in the last couple of weeks of fall practice. He’s sticky on the wide receivers, which is impressive, given the strength of this receiving corps.

Muhammad’s instincts and playmaking ability are well ahead of his years too.

Heading into the last couple of weeks of fall camp, Muhammad is reportedly the third cornerback on the depth chart behind redshirt junior boundary CB Ryan Watts and sophomore field CB Terrance Brooks. Muhammad is well on pace to get starter-level reps deeper in games during the season.
