Texas Football: 5 players that impressed in the second fall scrimmage
Xavier Worthy, WR
The most notable player for the Longhorns that stood out in various ways in the second fall scrimmage this weekend is standout junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy. The elusive and versatile threat, Worthy, reportedly burned the opposing defensive backs on a few different plays.
It’s exciting to hear that Worthy and redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers connected a couple of deep balls. Since the deep ball connection between Ewers and Worthy was such an issue last season, it’s encouraging that these two seem to have better chemistry this fall.
Worthy’s play that stuck out was reportedly burning Watts on the boundary side of the field on a deep ball that was put right in his “bread basket” from Ewers. Worthy apparently made that catch with one hand.
It sounds like Worthy burned Watts a few times, which is probably more concerning for the fourth-year boundary corner. But it’s still good to hear that Ewers and Worthy are connecting well on the deep ball.
Moreover, Aug. 19 was Worthy’s fall scrimmage debut for the Longhorns. He wore the green jersey in practice before last weekend’s scrimmage. And Worthy didn’t participate in the actual scrimmage last weekend.
