Among the top-rated prospects in the 2024 class is the elite five-star Dallas (TX) Link Academy shooting guard/wing Tre Johnson. The 6-foot-5 and 180-pound wing has long been one of the top priorities for Terry and the Longhorns in the 2024 class.

And while this recruitment had some momentum swings for the Longhorns in the last six or eight months, Texas remains heavily involved with Johnson heading into the fall. Terry was the primary recruiter for Johnson before the departure of former Texas head coach Chris Beard.

So this relationship between Terry and Johnson goes back a ways.

Moreover, Johnson included Texas among his six finalist schools which he announced on social media a few months ago. The other finalist schools are the Kentucky Wildcats, Arkansas Razorbacks, Kansas Jayhawks, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Baylor Bears.

Baylor and Texas are expected to be the two schools that battle it out in the race to land a commitment from Johnson.

Texas could get its final crack at making a big impression on Johnson and his camp when he likely makes an official to Austin this fall. Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas reported on Aug. 21 (paid content) that Johnson and Terry are “scheduled to speak” this week “to solidify an official visit date”.
