Colin Simmons & Alex January

The stellar duo of Simmons and January teamed up to stimy a good South Oak Cliff team up front in a convincing 34-13 win over the Bears on Aug. 25. South Oak Cliff couldn’t set the tone of the line of scrimmage, largely thanks to January plugging gaps at the line and Simmons’ speed coming off the edge.

Simmons did what he does best: getting after the quarterback. He led the charge for an effective Duncanville pass rush, getting multiple pressures and a couple of QB hits. Simmons shot off the line of scrimmage like a rocket on a few of his pressures, including one play where it looked like he got to the quarterback in a millisecond.

Simmons was also stout in run defense for the Panthers. We counted at least two run stops on the day for him.

January was also effective in rushing the passer up the middle. He had two quarterback pressures in the win over South Oak Cliff.

On offense, Duncanville had huge outings from four-star 2025 quarterback Keelon Russell and namely five-star wide receiver (LSU commit) Dakorien Moore. Russell and Moore connected for big plays multiple times, resulting in nearly 300 receiving yards and three scores for the No. 2 wideout recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite.

The commanding season-opening win over South Oak Cliff moves Simmons, January, and the Panthers to 1-0. Next up for Duncanville is the home opener against 0-1 Rockledge (FL) on Sep. 2.
