Dominick McKinley, DL

The aforementioned McKinley is the recruit with all the Longhorns’ attention on the trail this week. McKinley is set to announce his decision on Sep. 1 at 3:30 p.m. CT at Lafayette (LA) Acadiana High School.

McKinley will announce before he and Acadiana football face three-star Texas defensive line commit and Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) product Melvin Hills. Texas is one of McKinley’s top five schools he’ll decide between later this week. The other four are the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, and LSU Tigers.

We mentioned on the site earlier today that Texas and Texas A&M are the top two schools for McKinley heading into his commitment date in a few days. Texas A&M is making a late push in this recruitment. The Aggies check many boxes for McKinley, including the academics and proximity to home.

Those are two of the same boxes the Longhorns check for McKinley.

Another factor working in the Longhorns’ favor in this recruitment is the relationships that defensive line coach Bo Davis has with McKinley and his family. Davis and Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson have been mentioned as having the best relationships with McKinley and his family heading into his Sep. 1 commitment date.

McKinley is the “must-get” recruit among the outstanding priority recruits along the defensive front for the Longhorns in the 2024 class heading into the fall. If Texas lands his commitment on the afternoon of Sep. 1, that could open the floodgates for Texas to get other priority blue-chip recruits pledged in the 2024 class.
