If there is a “must-get” recruit on either side of the ball for the Longhorns in the 2024 class heading into the fall, it is the elite Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Black. The No. 1 cornerback in Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is at the top of the Longhorns’ board late this summer.

Texas has put the full-court press on Black in this recruitment since the spring. The Longhorns’ staff has done a nice job letting Black know how wanted he is in this class.

Black doesn’t have a decision timeline that he’s publicly announced. But he’s mentioned to the media multiple times in the last couple of months that he will be patient with the recruiting process and take more visits this fall.

Yet, Black is a prime candidate to move up his decision timeline if the Longhorns can build enough momentum on the recruiting trail early this fall. Texas already has one factor working in its favor in this recruitment after landing a commitment from the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons on Aug. 10.

We know that Simmons’ commitment to Texas earlier this month impacted Black. And if Texas hauls in a commitment from McKinley later this week, that will be another reason for Black to get caught in the hype and jump in this class.
