Texas football is building an intriguing visitor list for the season opener this weekend at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the Rice Owls. Texas is set to host multiple blue-chip recruits from the 2024 and 2025 classes for the regular season opener on Sep. 2 at home against Rice.

One of the recent additions to the visitor list for the Longhorns in the opener this weekend is the touted four-star Allen edge rusher Zina Umeozulu. Justin Wells of Inside Texas reported on the morning of Aug. 29 that Umeozulu will make the unofficial visit to Austin this weekend for the Rice game.

This will be Umeozulu’s first return visit to the Forty Acres since his late June official visit.

But making it to the 40 for a game at DKR is nothing new for Zina. He was a very frequent visitor last season to see his brother, second-year Texas OL Neto Umeozulu, with the Longhorns.

Umeozulu joins roughly a half-dozen other blue-chip recruits in the 2024 and 2025 classes that are on the list for this weekend for the Rice game at DKR. Zina is one of the top priority recruits for the Longhorns who aren’t committed to Texas and are visiting this weekend. The other is high-four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback/Florida Gators commit Wardell Mack.

Texas needs to get Umeozulu to campus as much as possible this fall

Zina is one of Texas’ top priorities at edge rusher in the 2024 class heading into the fall, along with Tampa (FL) Carrollwood Day four-star Solomon Williams and Tulsa (OK) NOAH Homeschool four-star Danny Okoye.

The more Umeozulu visits Texas this fall, the better for the Longhorns in this recruitment. Texas is jostling with Oklahoma in the race to land a commitment from Zina late this summer. Early in this recruitment, Texas held a firm lead with Zina. But Oklahoma has narrowed the gap on Texas’ lead in this recruitment as their staff invested a lot of time with Zina during the summer.
