Texas football opens up the 2023 regular season at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 2 at 2:30 p.m. against the Rice Owls. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian will look to kick off the regular season on the right foot before the massive Week 2 non-conference showdown in Tuscaloosa against the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide.

Sark and the No. 11 ranked (in the preseason AP Top 25) Longhorns are coming off a season of improvement last year, where they went 8-5 (6-3 Big 12) after a loss in the Alamo Bowl to the Washington Huskies. Texas is looking at another year of improvement with high expectations heading into the 2023 season.

Texas was picked to win the Big 12 in the preseason media poll for the first time since 2009.

Meanwhile, Rice comes into the opener on Sep. 2 after posting a record of 5-8 (3-5 C-USA) last season under head coach Mike Bloomgren. That was Rice’s first five-win season in roughly a half decade last year. Bloomgren and the Owls will have a challenge this fall in their first season competing in the American Athletic Conference after nearly two decades in C-USA.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as No. 11 Texas hosts Rice for the regular season opener at DKR in Austin on Sep. 2, with the kickoff time set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
