The second full week of high school football action is upon us, so it’s time to look at some of the top Texas football commits heading into the weekend. Most of the 16 recruits committed to Texas’ 2024 class will be in action around the country this weekend.

The high school football season is a couple of weeks away for most teams in Texas to open up district play. But some intriguing cross-state and out-of-state matchups involve Texas commits in the next 48 hours.

Moreover, this is a big week on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns in the 2024 class. Not only is Texas hosting multiple key targets and commitments from the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes this weekend for the season opener on Sep. 2 against the Rice Owls, but it is also involved in the decision of the elite five-star Lafayette (LA) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley on Sep. 1.

With so many storylines to follow on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns this week, we’re here to help you sort them out. We broke down the top visitors to watch for the Longhorns this weekend for the Rice game.

Now, here’s a look at four top Texas commits to watch this weekend.

Melvin Hills, DL

Sep. 1 (7:00 p.m. CT): Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) vs. Lafayette (LA) Acadiana

I think it’s fitting to start this list off with the Texas defensive line commit, Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) three-star Melvin Hills, who is facing McKinley and Acadiana on the night of Sep. 1. Hills and the Knights will battle McKinley and the Rams after the elite DL’s commitment ceremony on the afternoon of Sep. 1.

This matchup in Week 1 of Louisiana high school football is tabbed as KATC Acadiana’s Friday Night Football Game of the Week.

Hills and McKinley both looked solid in their respective scrimmages in the last couple of weeks. Hills came up with 2.5 tackles for loss in Lafayette Christian Academy’s scrimmage last week. This matchup will be a big test for both squads, as Lafayette Christian Academy and Acadiana are two of Louisiana’s top high school teams this fall.
