One of the top priorities at edge rusher for Texas football in the 2024 recruiting class, the touted Allen (TX) four-star Zina Umeozulu, has a commitment date set for Sep. 6 at 6 p.m. CT. Greg Powers of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football announced on social media on Sep. 1 that Umeozulu will decide live on the Dave Campbell’s YouTube page on the evening of Sep. 6.

Texas has been considered the frontrunner in the race to land a commitment from Umeozulu. The blue-chip in-state edge rusher has visited Texas more than any other school going back more than a year. His brother, second-year OL Neto Umeozulu, also plays for Texas.

Some of the other top schools in this recruitment that Umeozulu has visited recently are the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and Oregon Ducks.

A key piece of information in this recruitment is that Umeozulu will announce his commitment just four days after he’s scheduled to visit Texas for the season opener at DKR this weekend against the Rice Owls. Texas will likely get the final in-person visit with Umeozulu before his commitment on Sep. 6.

Texas is considered the favorite heading into Umeozulu’s Sep. 6 commitment date

Umeozulu also had a good experience during his late-June official visit to Austin. Texas was one of the two schools he saw during summer official visits. He also officially visited Oklahoma in mid-June.

The combination of Umeozulu visiting Texas way more times than any other school, along with UT getting the final in-person visit before his commitment date and his strong relationships with this staff, show why the Longhorns are the favorite heading into his commitment next week. It also doesn’t hurt that his brother, Neto, plays for Texas.

Umeozulu is one of the top edge rusher priorities this fall

Texas is looking to add more talented edge rushers to its 2024 class after landing the elite Duncanville five-star EDGE Colin Simmons on Aug. 10. The other top EDGE priorities for Texas in the 2024 class this fall are Umeozulu, Tulsa (OK) NOAH Homeschool four-star Danny Okoye, and Tampa (FL) Carrollwood Day four-star Solomon Williams.

Simmons is the only edge rusher currently committed to Texas’ 2024 class.
