The biggest non-conference game of the regular season looms large this coming weekend for head coach Steve Sarkisian and No. 11 ranked Texas football. Texas will battle the No. 4 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and legendary head coach Nick Saban on the road in Tuscaloosa on Sep. 9 in the back end of a home-and-home series that started in Austin last season.

In the first top-15 matchup on the road for the Longhorns since the 2009 season, Texas will be tested to see if it will legitimately contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff this fall. The last time Texas was part of a top-15 matchup in a true road game was in the win over the No. 13 Oklahoma State Cowboys during the 2009 season.

Problematic Alabama players for Texas football in Week 2

Alabama had the more impressive showing of these two teams in Week 1, downing the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders by a commanding score of 56-7. Quarterback Jalen Milroe tossed multiple deep touchdown passes, tallying five total scores against Middle Tennessee last weekend.

Meanwhile, Texas hit some speed bumps en route to its 37-10 win over the Rice Owls in Week 1.

None of this matters, though, if the Longhorns come out with a strong effort, looking more buttoned up than they did in Week 1. The same can be said if Alabama struggles against Texas’ solid defense and depth at the skill positions this weekend.

Alabama does have some problematic players of its own, especially on defense. The Tide could have one of the best defenses in the Power Five this season, which will be a tall challenge for the Longhorns on Sep. 9.
