Texas Football: 4-Star EDGE Solomon Williams close to locking in OV

Edge rusher recruiting is coming into focus for Texas football in the 2024 class early in the season. Texas has a priority EDGE target in the 2024 class, Allen four-star Zina Umeozulu, who is set to announce his commitment on Sep. 6.

Texas is also pursuing two high-priority blue-chip EDGE targets in the 2024 class heading into the fall. Tulsa (OK) NOAH Homeschool four-star Danny Okoye and Tampa (FL) Carrollwood Day four-star Solomon Williams join Umeozulu as the top three EDGE priorities for the Longhorns in the 2024 class at the moment.

Williams will attend the massive non-conference showdown in Tuscaloosa on Sep. 9 under the lights at Bryant-Denny Stadium between No. 11 Texas and the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide. Texas can make a big impression on Williams with their play on the defensive side of the ball this weekend against Alabama, even though he’s being hosted by the Tide this weekend.

Moreover, Texas is high on Williams’ list among his top schools heading into the fall. Texas made an impression during his late-July unofficial visit to Austin for the pool party/BBQ bash.

But Williams has yet to take an official visit to Texas.

The only school he’s officially visited is Alabama in mid-June. Rivals national recruiting analyst John Garcia Jr. reported on Sep. 6 that Williams is planning an official visit to Texas for a game at DKR this fall.

"“I’ll be taking an official to Texas but I don’t know the exact game yet.”"

It is also reported that Texas will likely make the cut among Williams’ four finalist schools. Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Texas are reportedly the four schools standing out to Williams after the summer visits.

Williams sets other official visit dates for the fall

Williams reportedly will also take official visits this fall to see the Oregon Ducks (Sep. 23), Clemson Tigers (Nov. 11), and Texas A&M Aggies (Oct. 7).

Alabama is considered the favorite in the race to land a commitment from Williams. But Texas remains involved in this recruitment. The race to land Williams could get interesting this fall if Texas wants to take three edge rushers in the 2024 class, assuming this staff lands Umeozulu when he announces his commitment on the evening of Sep. 6.
