Kobe Black, CB

The most important recruitment for the Longhorns in the 2024 class down the stretch this fall, heading into signing day in mid-December, is for the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The No. 1 cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is the Longhorns’ “must-get” prospect for this cycle after landing Simmons on Aug. 10.

Texas remains the leader in this recruitment, with the Texas A&M Aggies trying to make up ground early this fall. Texas knocked it out of the park during Black’s two visits to Austin during the summer, including a late-June official trip.

However, a date to watch in this recruitment is the official visit that Black has scheduled to College Station in early October.

Black is scheduled to officially visit Texas A&M on Oct. 7 for the big-time SEC showdown between the Aggies and No. 3 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. If he takes that official visit to College Station for the Texas A&M-Alabama game, that could change things in this recruitment.

It’s also worth noting that Black has an official visit scheduled to see Baton Rouge this weekend as the LSU Tigers host Grambling at Tiger Stadium.

Since this recruiting battle likely comes down to Texas and Texas A&M, the LSU and Alabama visits might not come to fruition. We’ll be monitoring those visits closely as that could be telling of how Black’s decision timeline plays out this fall.

Texas is still in the driver’s seat as this staff looks to get Black to shut down his recruitment and announce a decision date in the next few weeks.
