Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian got the biggest win of his time on the 40, and likely the biggest of his career as a college head coach, on Sep. 9 over head coach Nick Saban and the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide. Texas set the tone from the very beginning of this game and finished strong with a 34-24 win over Alabama on the road at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
In this game, redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers was huge for the Longhorns, with 349 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and no turnovers. Ewers did exactly what was needed of him to get this upset win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
It’s hard to describe the magnitude of this win for Sark and the Longhorns. The fact of the matter is that Texas is a College Football Playoff contender if it can take care of business heading into Big 12 play.
Texas might’ve just passed its biggest test of the regular season. But there’s a long way to go.
This is a night to rejoice for the Longhorns faithful. It was over a decade ago that the Longhorns had their shot at two national titles in a half-decade snapped when Colt McCoy went down with injury against Alabama.
Now, Texas upsets Alabama on the road in Tuscaloosa in 2023, one year after Ewers went down with an upper-body injury in the front end of this home-and-home series last season.
I guess Texas just needs its quarterback to stay healthy for an entire game against Alabama to beat the Tide.

Pointing out the truth here on a big night for Ewers and the Longhorns. Meanwhile, the Ohio State Buckeyes struggled to cover the spread.
Quinn Ewers beat Alabama. Kyle McCord didn’t cover against Youngstown State. Damn.

Texas has spent a lot of time in the wilderness since 2009. Lots of close calls. Lots of moral victories. Lots of coaches.

They needed someone to kick the door in, get this program moving in the right direction and win these type of games.
Steve Sarkisian did that tonight.
