Corian Gipson, DB (Clemson commit)

Another top priority defensive back recruit the Longhorns are willing to fight through the finish line on signing day for is the elite four-star Lancaster (TX) cornerback and Clemson Tigers commit Corian Gipson. The top-75-rated recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking has remained on the Longhorns’ radar since he committed to Clemson in late July.

Gipson is another case where the Longhorns faithful get their hopes up because of Texas’ strong start to the season, while Clemson struggled in its opener two weeks ago in a 21-point loss to the Duke Blue Devils.

But this isn’t unfounded confidence from the Texas faithful. We’ve seen Texas recruit top in-state defensive backs through the finish line on signing day before in recent cycles (i.e., former Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback commit Terrance Brooks on signing day 2021) and eventually win out.

Safeties coach Blake Gideon and Sark know what they’re doing on the recruiting trail. They’re patiently chipping away at Gipson’s commitment to Clemson to see if there’s any give before signing day.

On3 tabbed Gipson and Mack as flip targets to watch for Texas after beating Alabama on the road last weekend.

If Clemson continues to struggle in the ACC this season, that will only strengthen the Longhorns’ case in this recruitment. There is a long way to go this fall, but Texas won’t give up with Gipson in the next few months heading into signing day.
