Brandon Baker, OT

The most highly anticipated upcoming decision date for the Longhorns faithful among top targets in the 2024 class is Sep. 24, when the elite five-star Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei offensive tackle Brandon Baker announces. The top offensive tackle recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite is trending Texas less than seven days from his announcement.

The overwhelming buzz in this recruitment in the last few days is with the Longhorns. Baker has a great relationship with Texas offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and sees an opportunity to make an immediate impact in Austin.

Every forecast from the major recruiting services in the last 72 hours (247Sports, On3, and Rivals) projects Baker’s commitment to Texas over the Oregon Ducks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Ohio State Buckeyes. That includes a 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction from Wiltfong projecting Baker’s commitment to Texas on Sep. 19 (with six out of 10 confidence).

Nebraska swung at Baker in this recruitment during his official visit to Lincoln two weekends ago. But there wasn’t much buzz surrounding the Huskers with Baker in the last week since the official visit concluded.

Oregon held an early lead in this recruitment early in the 2023 offseason. But the Ducks have faded since the early summer. Ohio State made a spirited push with Baker late and has remained a wildcard. But Texas holds what appears to be an increasingly sizable lead heading into Baker’s Sep. 24 decision date.
