Texas football and defensive line coach Bo Davis have assembled a solid group of underrated interior defensive linemen committed to the 2024 recruiting class. Four-star defensive line commits D’antre Robinson, and Alex January highlight this group in the trenches for Davis and Texas.

But the former of those two blue-chip defensive line commits for the Longhorns in the 2024 class took an abrupt visit elsewhere this weekend. Multiple reports indicate that Robinson visited Gainesville this weekend to see the Florida Gators beat up on the Charlotte 49ers at Ben-Hill Griffin Stadium on Sep. 23.

While it’s nothing new for verbal commitments to the Longhorns (or any school) to visit other schools during the fall, how those trips take place is a big topic of conversation. That’s part of the discussion with Robinson’s visit to Florida this weekend.

Most of the time a Texas commit visits another school, there is an open dialogue regarding those plans with head coach Steve Sarkisian and the coaching staff for the Longhorns. That does not appear to be the case with Robinson’s visit, though.

Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas reported on Sep. 24 (paid content) that Robinson “did not inform the Texas staff” before he visited Florida for the Charlotte game this weekend.

Robinson told Gator Country after the visit this weekend that he is “still listening” to the Gators’ pitch this fall.

"“Maybe a little bit,” Robinson said on if he’s still considering Florida. “I think so [on if he will be back for another]. I haven’t checked but I have to look over the schedule again.”"

He also told Gator Country that despite his commitment to Texas, Florida still “has a shot” with him in this recruitment.

It’s clear that head coach Billy Napier and the Gators are putting the full-court press on Robinson to try and keep him in-state this cycle.

Robinson visits Florida one weekend after taking an unofficial trip to Texas

This trip to Florida for the blue-chip Orlando (FL) Jones defensive lineman Robinson comes one week after he visited Texas unofficially for the Wyoming game on Sep. 16. Last weekend was Robinson’s first gameday experience in-person at Texas.

Robinson committed to Texas on July 20 over the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida, and the Ohio State Buckeyes after a successful mid-June official visit to Austin.
