Kansas’ struggles on the road could come back to bite them

Among the more underrated storylines heading into the matchup against Kansas is the Jayhawks’ struggles on the road since last season. Since last fall, Kansas has not played well on the road, especially compared to their performances at home.

Kansas lost its last four Big 12 games on the road, three of which came at the hands of unranked foes. Those four losses in Big 12 play for the Jayhawks were by double digits, too.

That’s not to mention Kansas’s closest game this season was its lone road game against a bad Nevada Wolfpack team out of the Mountain West Conference on Sep. 16. It took the Jayhawks a late-game touchdown in the fourth quarter to get the win over Nevada a couple of weeks ago.

Kansas found a lot more success at home in Lawrence since the start of last season compared to how it’s performed on the road. Every Kansas home game the last couple of years either resulted in a win or a single-digit loss to a ranked foe, ironically besides its blowout 55-14 loss to the Longhorns in Lawrence last season.

The magnitude of this game in Austin is unlike anything most Kansas players have faced in the last two seasons. They haven’t been tested on the road in the last two seasons as they will this weekend against the best Texas team Sark’s had in his three years in Austin.

And considering Kansas hasn’t played too well against lesser competition than the Texas team they’re facing this weekend, I like the home-field advantage factor for the Longhorns in this game.
