Texas football among top 3 schools for 5-Star 2025 RB Harlem Berry
Texas football recruiting is in a great spot this fall after head coach Steve Sarkisian’s squad’s hot start to the 2023 season. The undefeated 5-0 (2-0 Big 12) start to the season for Texas has really impacted what this staff can do on the recruiting trail with top priority targets in the 2025 class.
A top-priority recruit in the 2025 class for the Longhorns that has taken notice of Texas’ hot start this fall is the No. 1 2025 running back recruit in the nation in the On3 Industry Ranking, Metairie (LA) St. Martin’s Episcopal School five-star Harlem Berry. Running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns have made it clear that Berry and Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei five-star Jordon Davison are their top priorities at running back in the 2025 class.
Choice has great relationships with Berry and Davison. But Davison has made it to campus for more visits in the last few months than Berry.
Berry is scheduled to be in Dallas for the Red River Rivalry game between the Longhorns and No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fairgrounds on Oct. 7. That will be Berry’s first gameday trip as a Texas visitor.

Berry’s only other Texas visit since the Longhorns offered last fall was for the Elite Camp in early June.
Texas standing out early to Berry along with LSU and USC
Berry told On3’s Sam Spiegelman (paid content) that Texas is one of the top three schools standing out to him this fall. The other two schools Berry mentioned to Spiegelman to round out his top three are the LSU Tigers and USC Trojans.
In this report, Berry says that he “loves the energy” Choice gives off and that he “loved” his early-summer visit to Texas. Choice and Berry communicate all the time. Berry said that Choice calls and texts him regularly.

Texas is the third school Berry will visit for a gameday this fall. He’s already taken an unofficial visit to Athens to see the Georgia Bulldogs beat up on the UAB Blazers on Sep. 23. Berry is also scheduled to visit Baton Rouge unofficially on Oct. 14 to watch LSU host the Auburn Tigers at Tiger Stadium.
A gameday visit to California to see head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans sounds like something Berry is working on for later this fall.
Choice has Texas in the thick of things for multiple top ’25 RBs
The aforementioned priority 2025 RB prospect duo of Davison and Berry makes up the top targets at the position for Choice and the Longhorns in that cycle. Choice has made it clear that these are the two guys he wants in the 2025 class.
Choice’s track record on the trail recruiting the running back position in the last few cycles speaks for itself. He’s landed his top targets at running back in the last two cycles. In the 2024 class, Texas went two-for-two at RB with Phoenix (AZ) Mountain Pointe four-star Christian Clark and IMG Academy high-four-star Jerrick Gibson.
Choice and the Longhorns also signed the nation’s No. 1 running back recruit in the 2023 class, IMG Academy five-star CJ Baxter Jr.
