Texas football pursuing 5-Star Florida S commit Xavier Filsaime
Texas football is after two key Florida Gators commits in the 2024 recruiting class this fall. Since spring, we’ve known about Texas’ pursuit of the highly touted four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack.
A new name emerging on the Longhorns’ radar this fall among Gators commits is the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety Xavier Filsaime. Texas offered the No. 1 safety recruit in Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking on Oct. 9.
While the Longhorns are getting in on this recruitment pretty late, it sounds like the offer caught Filsaime’s attention. Hank South of Horns247 reported on Oct. 9 (paid content) that there is “definitely mutual interest” between Filsaime and Texas.

Notably, this same Horns247 report mentions that the Gators aren’t too concerned about Filsaime’s commitment to Florida after the Texas offer early this week.

Inside Texas reported on Oct. 9 (paid content) that Texas’ staff is expected to visit McKinney High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this week to see Filsaime. Texas is also reportedly making Filsaime their top in-state safety priority in the 2024 class this fall.
Texas looking to get Filsaime to DKR for a gameday visit this fall
What would really cause things to heat up in this recruitment is if Filsaime schedules a gameday visit to Austin to see the Longhorns in Big 12 play this fall. Filsaime visiting Texas would indicate that the Longhorns are a serious threat to flip his commitment from Florida.
If Texas has a strong finish through the second half of the 2023 season, and Florida struggles to finish out SEC play, that would give Filsaime something to think about after the Longhorns offer on Oct. 9. Florida hypothetically struggling to finish the 2023 season would also give the Longhorns a better chance to flip Mack from the Gators.
