New full-time head coach Rodney Terry and Texas basketball will tip off the 2023-24 regular season in less than a month. Texas begins the upcoming regular season at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Nov. 6 against the Incarnate Word Cardinals.

Before the regular season tips off, Terry and the Longhorns are slated to hold the Orange-White Scrimmage at Gregory Gymnasium in Austin on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. CT. Texas will also host St. Edward’s in an exhibition game at the Moody Center in Austin on Oct. 30.

Texas basketball’s projected starting 5 a month before the start of the 2023-24 season

The Longhorns have high expectations entering the 2023-24 campaign after the magical run Terry led this squad on when he took over as the interim head coach midseason. Terry led the Longhorns to an Elite Eight run for the first time in over a decade and a Big 12 Tournament crown last season.

Texas is now underway in preseason camp, breaking in over a half dozen new additions among the scholarship players on the roster since the conclusion of last season. Since over half of last season’s roster turned over during the offseason, Terry and the staff had to hit the transfer portal hard to fill those spots.

Here’s a projected starting five for the Longhorns for the season opener, with only a few weeks remaining before the 2023-24 campaign tips off.

Sixth man/bench

Between high school recruiting and the transfer portal, Texas brought in four or five players that added depth to the bench this season and long-term upside in the future. Texas has 13 scholarship players on the roster this season.

Sixth man: Chendall Weaver, G

Chris Johnson, CG

Devon Pryor, SF

Alex Anamekwe, F

Brock Cunningham, F

Ze’Rik Onyema, PF
