Texas football and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood have a lot of momentum on the trail right now recruiting in the trenches. Flood and Texas have assembled a solid offensive line class in 2024, highlighted by the recent commitment of the No. 1 offensive tackle recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking, Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei five-star Brandon Baker.

Baker was the top priority along the offensive line for Flood and the Longhorns in the 2024 class early this fall.

Now, the top priority along the offensive line for the Longhorns in the 2024 class is Baker’s teammate at Mater Dei, and four-star interior offensive lineman/Auburn Tigers commit DeAndre Carter. The enormous 6-foot-4 and 345-pound Carter is arguably Texas’ top flip target this fall at any position in the 2024 class.

Texas hosted Carter on a successful official visit to Austin for the win over the No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks at DKR on Sep. 30. Flood and the Longhorns gave Carter and his camp something to think about as they consider all options before signing day in mid-December.

Flood and the Longhorns have continued to remain in contact with Carter and his family since the official visit concluded a few weeks ago. And it sounds like Texas has made real progress as the staff continues to chip away at Carter’s commitment to Auburn.

Hank South of Horns247 reported on Oct. 16 (paid content) that the “buzz is growing in favor of Texas flipping Carter” from Auburn after he had time to consider his options with his family in the last couple of weeks. Texas reportedly still has “work to do” in this recruitment, but South noted in this Horns247 piece that things are “trending in the right direction”.

Carter is Auburn’s only OL commit in the 2024 class

Since first-year head coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers only have Carter committed along the offensive line in the 2024 class, he is obviously an important piece for them on the recruiting trail. Freeze and the Tigers will fight hard to keep Carter’s commitment in their 2024 class.

It’s noteworthy that Flood and Sark were at the Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco game last week during the bye to see Carter and Baker, along with a few other key Texas targets on the recruiting trail in the 2024 and 2025 classes. Texas’ staff is doing all they can to show these top Mater Dei priority recruits that the Longhorns want them in the next two cycles.
