Xavier Filsaime, S (Florida commit)

The most recent five-star offer the Longhorns sent out to a prospect in the 2024 class was to the No. 1 safety recruit in Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite, McKinney (TX) five-star Xavier Filsaime. While flipping Filsaime from Florida would certainly be a massive feat on the recruiting trail so close to signing day, Texas is clearly fighting an uphill battle in this recruitment.

Texas got in this recruitment late, as Filsaime committed to the Gators in April 2023.

But Texas has made Filsaime their top pure safety priority recruit in the 2024 class a couple of months before signing day.

Safeties coach Blake Gideon and the Longhorns offered Filsaime on Oct. 9, 2023. Since offering him 10 days ago, Gideon and the Longhorns are pushing to get him to campus for a gameday visit at DKR this fall.

Filsaime is reportedly open to visiting Texas either for the home game against the BYU Cougars on Oct. 28 or the Kansas State Wildcats on Nov. 4.

The Georgia Bulldogs are also working to chip away at Filsaime’s commitment to the Gators this fall.

The pitch Texas is giving Filsaime is that he can stay close to home while competing immediately in the SEC, with the Longhorns starting in 2024. Texas and Florida can pitch early playing time to Filsaime, whereas the path to early live-game reps at Georgia would be much more difficult.

If Filsaime makes it to DKR for a gameday visit to Austin in the next few weeks, that could make the threat of Texas flipping his commitment from Florida a bit more real. We’ll judge Texas’ standing in the race to flip Filsaime’s commitment from Florida this fall over the next few weeks to see if he makes an appearance on the 40 in the near future.
