Texas Football: Oregon targeting 4-Star UT ATH commit Aeryn Hampton
We have officially entered the time of the recruiting cycle where Texas football is actively working to find and recruit flip targets on the trail a couple of months before the first signing day in mid-December. Texas has identified multiple flip targets this fall, including some senior high school evaluations the staff is trying to get on campus before the regular season concludes next month.
But identifying flip targets is a two-way street in college recruiting, which means a handful of Longhorns commits are being courted by other schools on the trail. One such example of a Texas commit being courted by a competing school on the recruiting trail this fall is the touted four-star Daingerfield (TX) athlete commit Aeryn Hampton.
4-Star Texas football ATH commit Aeryn Hampton reportedly being pursued by Oregon
On3’s Sam Spiegelman reported on Oct. 25 (paid content) that Hampton is being pursued by the Oregon Ducks late in the cycle. Oregon is reportedly trying to get Hampton to Eugene for a gameday visit at Autzen Stadium late this fall.
And it sounds like Oregon is making progress trying to get Hampton to campus for a late-cycle visit this season. Spiegelman reported that we should “keep an eye on Hampton as a possible late visitor to Eugene”.
Texas and Alabama were the top two schools for Hampton early this summer
Hampton’s recruitment was a battle on the recruiting trail between Texas and the Alabama Crimson Tide during the 2023 offseason. He picked Texas over Alabama in the summer as a re-commitment in the Longhorns 2024 class.
Hampton was originally one of the early prospects to commit to the Longhorns in the 2024 class. He committed to Texas in early July 2023 after having been committed to Texas in late 2021 and for most of last year.
Oregon reportedly wants another explosive athlete at the skill positions in their 2024 class
If Hampton does visit Oregon this fall, it would be the first time he’s been to Eugene since the summer of 2022. It would also be the first visit he’s taken to another school since he committed to Texas a few months ago.
Oregon is reportedly looking for another explosive athlete to add to the 2024 class on offense.
Hampton committed to Texas as an athlete, and it sounds like the plan for him now would be to play defensive back on the Forty Acres.
