How to watch Texas football vs. BYU: TV, stream, game time
After a resilient win over the Houston Cougars and head coach Dana Holgorsen on the road at TDECU Stadium on Oct. 21, Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian will battle his alma mater at home at DKR in Austin this weekend. No. 7 Texas will host the BYU Cougars and head coach Kalani Sitake as the Burnt Orange deals with a slew of injuries coming out of the Houston game.
The Longhorns lost redshirt sophomore starting quarterback Quinn Ewers to a shoulder injury that he suffered on a sack in the second half against Houston last weekend. Ewers tried to tough it out late in the game against Houston, but a hit he took on a scramble play from defensive end David Ugwoegbu took him out for the rest of the contest.
Sark and the Longhorns turn to redshirt freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy as the likely start in Week 9 at home against BYU. Murphy took over for the injured Ewers in the fourth quarter against Houston last weekend. He completed 1-of-2 passing attempts for seven yards and led the Longhorns to a touchdown on his second and final offensive drive of the game.
True freshman running back CJ Baxter Jr. scored the game-winning touchdown on a 16-yard run on Murphy’s second drive to get the Longhorns the win over Houston by a score of 31-24 in Week 8. The win over Houston moves Texas’ record on the season to 6-1 (3-1 Big 12).
Texas is still firmly in contention to get a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game if it takes care of business in the last five games of the regular season.
BYU, meanwhile, is coming off a 27-14 over an injured Texas Tech Red Raiders squad at home at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Oct. 21. The win over Texas Tech moved BYU’s record this season to 5-2 (2-2 Big 12).
