Adonai Mitchell is the best receiver on the team

Another NFL-Draft-caliber talent for the Longhorns that is having a tremendous season is junior wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. The former Georgia Bulldogs transfer is having a career year for the Longhorns with a career-high in catches (29), receiving yards (427), and receiving touchdowns (seven).

We’re only eight games into the 2023 campaign, and Mitchell has already nearly doubled his previous career high for receiving touchdowns in a season, which was four during his true freshman campaign at Georgia in 2021.

Mitchell played a big role in the success that Murphy and the Longhorns found in the passing game after the first few drives of the contest. He caught both touchdown passes Murphy threw on the day. Mitchell finished up the win over BYU with three catches for 59 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The first touchdown catch for Mitchell came on a nice route that he ran on a deep ball where Murphy floated one to him in the end zone. Mitchell tracked the ball well and came up with the catch to give Murphy his first career passing touchdown.

Mitchell’s second touchdown against BYU came in the second half where Murphy found him open for a 12-yard score on a slant route.

Mitchell led the Longhorns in receiving yards and touchdowns in the Week 9 win over BYU. This was his second multi-touchdown game of the season after posting two receiving scores in the big Week 2 win on the road over the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide.

Worthy and Mitchell are both having stellar seasons for the Longhorns. Worthy leads the team in catches (44) and receiving yards this season (572). Meanwhile, Mitchell leads the team in receiving touchdowns.

Mitchell has also emerged as a big-time red zone threat for Texas. He is tied for the lead in the Big 12 among wide receivers this season in red zone touchdown catches, with five. Mitchell can play a big role down the stretch in helping to alleviate Sark and the Longhorns’ red zone conversion woes.
