Kobe Black, CB

Texas’ “must-win” recruitment in the 2024 class this fall is for the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The No. 1 cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is also the biggest priority recruitment for the Longhorns this fall among the uncommitted prospects.

Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns continue to push for Black’s commitment after landing a pledge from Wingo last week.

If Texas landed a commitment from Black in the next few weeks, he would be the fourth five-star prospect to commit to the Longhorns in the 2024 class in as many months. Since August, the Longhorns have landed commitments from five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons (Aug. 10), five-star Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei offensive tackle Brandon Baker (Sep. 24), and Wingo (Oct. 25).

And it sounds like a decision could be coming sooner rather than later for the elite in-state cornerback recruit. Inside Texas reported on Oct. 30 (paid content) that Black is “planning an announcement ceremony soon” at Connally High School.

It’s also noteworthy that Black is reportedly considering a gameday visit to Texas when the Longhorns host No. 25 Kansas State at DKR on Nov. 4. If Black makes the trip to Austin for the Kansas State game this weekend, it would be his first visit for a Texas game since Red River against the Oklahoma Sooners in Dallas on Oct. 7.

If we do see Black on campus this weekend for the Kansas State game, after he canceled multiple other official visits to schools like Texas A&M and LSU this fall, that would be a great indication of how strong Texas’ position is in this recruitment as we head toward the finish line soon.
