Texas Basketball: 2 studs, 1 dud from Longhorns win over Delaware St
Dud: Ze’Rik Onyema, PF/C
After a spectacular debut for the Longhorns, where he registered 11 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and two blocks in the win over UIW earlier this week, junior power forward Ze’Rik Onyema had a tougher night on both ends against Delaware State. Onyema struggled to finish around the rim in this game, going just one-of-four from the field and one-of-two from the free-throw line.
Despite getting roughly a half-dozen touches in the paint with opportunities to put the ball in the bucket, Onyema finished up with just three points, no assists, and two turnovers.
Onyema’s biggest contribution on the offensive end of the floor in the win over Delaware State was with three offensive boards. The three offensive rebounds were a team-high, which the Longhorns really needed when Delaware State was keeping things tight on the scoreboard for most of this game.
This was a pretty pedestrian showing from Onyema on the defensive end of the floor, too. He finished with three defensive rebounds (six total boards), no blocks, and one steal. Texas needed more from bigs like Onyema and redshirt junior center Kadin Shedrick, as they only got one block and lost the points in the paint battle against Delaware State (28-24).
