Dominick McKinley, DL

There was already some communication between Texas’ staff and five-star Lafayette (LA) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley before the news of Fisher’s firing this weekend. Texas invited McKinley to Austin for a visit for a couple of home games in late October and early November. But nothing came to fruition from those invites in the last few weeks.

Nonetheless, McKinley had a lot of interest in Texas before he committed to Texas A&M on Sep.1. He visited Texas multiple times during the offseason, including on an official visit in late June. His family also liked the combination of academics and athletics at UT.

Considering that Texas already appealed to McKinley and his family before he committed to Texas A&M early this fall and that the Longhorns are still looking to add another defensive lineman to the 2024 class before signing day, this connection makes sense on the recruiting trail.

Texas is definitely a school to watch in this recruitment if McKinley decides to open things up anytime soon. Oklahoma, LSU, and the Ohio State Buckeyes were other schools McKinley liked before he committed to Texas A&M a couple of months ago.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the communication pick up between McKinley and Texas in the coming days and weeks. This recruitment would get even more interesting for the Longhorns if McKinley visits the Forty Acres before signing day on Dec. 20.
