Texas Football: 5-Star 2025 RB Harlem Berry sets Dec. commitment date

A top target at running back for Texas football in the 2025 recruiting class, Metairie (LA) St. Martin’s Episcopal School five-star Harlem Berry, has set a decision date for mid-December. On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Nov. 13 that Berry set his commitment date for Dec. 18.

Berry will choose between the LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, and the Longhorns as his three finalist schools on Dec. 18.

Berry is one of the top priorities for running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns at the position in the 2025 class. Choice has an amazing track record recruiting top running back talent in recent cycles.

Texas landed the No. 1 running back recruit in the nation in the 2023 class in the 247Sports Composite, Orlando (FL) Edgewater five-star CJ Baxter Jr., and Choice has two top blue-chip backs committed for 2024.

Choice’s strong relationship with Berry and his successful track record of recruiting and developing running back talent at Texas in the last few years put the Longhorns in a prime position in this recruitment during the summer. Texas has remained in constant communication with Berry since early in the offseason.

Berry enjoyed his visit to Texas early in the summer

Berry unofficially visited Texas on the weekend of the Elite Camp in early June. He had a great experience on the Forty Acres during his early-June visit to the Elite Camp.

The elite 2025 running back recruit also visited the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for the Red River Rivalry game between Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 7.

Texas made the cut among Berry’s top five finalist schools last month

Texas was one of the schools that made the cut for Berry’s top five finalists he announced on social media on Oct. 6. The USC Trojans, Oklahoma, Florida, and USC were the other schools that made his top five last month.

LSU is the trendy pick to land Berry’s commitment one month out from his decision day

While Choice and the Longhorns have made a big impression on Berry since he visited Texas early in the summer, LSU has emerged as the trendy pick heading into his mid-December commitment date. Berry has visited LSU multiple times since the offseason, including last weekend for the Tigers’ win in Baton Rouge over the Gators.

Berry has close ties to LSU and has built great relationships with head coach Brian Kelly and RB coach Frank Wilson, who have made him a top priority in their 2024 class. LSU obviously does well with top recruits from Louisiana, and the Tigers have done a good job selling Berry on the ability to play early there.

Texas will continue to push for Berry in this recruitment through his Dec. 18 commitment date. It’s not out of the question that the Longhorns can make up enough ground with Berry to make things interesting with LSU in this recruitment in the next few weeks.
