Texas Basketball: 2 studs, 1 dud from UT’s last-second win vs. Louisville
Dud: Tyrese Hunter, G
After he appeared on the studs list for the first time this season in Texas’ 16-point win over the Rice Owls at the Moody Center in Austin on Nov. 15, junior guard Tyrese Hunter had another off night on the offensive end of the floor against Louisville. Hunter also ran into foul trouble, which kept him on the bench more than usual.
Hunter ran up four personal fouls by the five-minute mark of the second half, and he had two fouls within the first 10 minutes of the game. As a result, Hunter played a season-low 23 minutes against Louisville.
When he was on the floor, Hunter struggled to find his offensive game, and he didn’t make much of an impact on the defensive end. He registered a season-low six points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field and 0-of-2 from beyond the arc.
Hunter essentially disappeared down the stretch in the second half, too. After shooting a solid 3-of-5 from the field in the first 15 minutes, Hunter was 0-of-2 from the field and missed his only attempt from beyond the arc.
He also didn’t have a single assist while turning the ball over once in 13 minutes on the floor in the second half. On the defensive end, Hunter was pretty silent. He didn’t have a single steal or block and wasn’t affecting much of the shots from the red-hot Louisville guards, who shot better than 50 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep.
Texas needs more out of one of its best and most proven guards in these bigger games this season. Hunter will get a chance to respond in Texas’ final game in the Empire Classic on Nov. 20 against UConn.
