Texas football hosted a big-time visitor on campus this week that is a top flip target from the 2024 recruiting class. Inside Texas reported on Nov. 22 that Texas hosted the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety and Florida Gators commit Xavier Filsaime on a midweek unofficial visit to Austin.

Filsaime reportedly made the visit to Texas this week with his father on Nov. 21.

This is big news for the Longhorns as Filsaime is one of the top flip targets remaining in the 2024 class before signing day on Dec. 20. Texas already flipped Filsaime’s teammate and high-four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack from the Gators a couple of weekends ago.

The Texas staff is looking to take another key defensive back commit from the Florida 2024 class that is coming apart at the seams late this fall. Florida has lost three blue-chip commitments in the 2024 class already this month.

This is the first time Filsaime has visited Austin since the Longhorns offered him on Oct. 9. He did visit the Cotton Bowl on Oct. 7 for the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas between Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Texas emerging as a serious threat to flip Filsaime from Florida this fall

Safeties coach Blake Gideon and the Longhorns have steadily chipped away at Filsaime’s commitment to Florida in the last couple of months. Texas has regularly communicated with Filsaime since the Longhorns offered him last month.

Gideon and the Longhorns will push to get Filsaime back to campus for an official visit before the Early Signing Period begins on Dec. 20.

The only other visit Filsaime has scheduled at the moment is a gameday trip to Gainesville to see the Gators host the in-state rival and No. 5 ranked Florida State Seminoles at the Swamp on Nov. 25.
