Texas’ “must-win” recruitment this fall among the remaining uncommitted recruits and flip targets in the 2024 class is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The No. 1 cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking recently announced he will make his commitment during a ceremony at Connally High School on Nov. 29.

The Longhorns are the trendy pick heading into Black’s decision date next week. Texas has remained the school with the most buzz in this recruitment, thanks to the strong relationships Black has built with the Texas coaches and the opportunity to immediately impact the secondary while playing in the SEC next year.

Texas got even more good news in this recruitment with the addition of Black to the visitor list for this week’s matchup at home against Texas Tech. Black visiting Texas this week for the regular season finale against Tech all but enforces the point that the Longhorns are leading this recruitment ahead of Black’s Nov. 29 commitment.

Competing schools on the recruiting trail for Black, such as the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas A&M Aggies, and LSU Tigers, tried to make late pushes with him. But he’s canceled multiple visits, including officials to College Station and Baton Rouge this fall.

He has taken multiple visits to Stillwater to see Oklahoma State play this season because his brother, Korie Black, plays cornerback for the Pokes.

We mentioned a report on the site this week that stated Texas has “well-founded confidence” in the race to land Black’s commitment heading into his late November decision date. That remains the case as no new information has surfaced that would change what’s been reported for this recruitment since late in the spring.
