It’s flip season around the college football recruiting landscape this fall, and Texas football has already gotten in on the action in the last few weeks. Texas flipped the highly touted four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack from the Florida Gators on Nov. 12. And Texas is pursuing roughly a half dozen other flip targets in the 2024 class before signing day next month, including one more DB that is committed to the Gators.

Florida is trying to return to the favor with some in-state Texas commits that head coach Billy Napier and his staff are working to flip in the 2024 class before signing day on Dec. 20. The Gators are in communication with two Texas commits in the 2024 class this fall, including four-star Orlando (FL) Jones defensive lineman D’antre Robinson and four-star IMG Academy running back Jerrick Gibson.

And Florida has generated some buzz recently in their efforts to flip Gibson’s commitment from the Longhorns before signing day. After he visited Texas for the game at DKR on Black Friday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Gibson visited Gainesville to see the Gators host the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles at The Swamp on Nov. 25.

4-Star Texas football RB commit Jerrick Gibson considering taking an official visit to Florida in December

Corey Bender of Gatorsonline reported on Nov. 27 that Gibson is a possibility to make a return trip to Gainesville for an official visit on the weekend of Dec. 9. Napier and the Gators are putting together a big visit weekend for their top remaining targets (including the possibility of a handful of top flip candidates) in the 2024 class in December.

If Gibson does show up on campus in Gainesville for an official visit to Florida in December, then the threat of the Gators flipping his commitment becomes very real.

Florida currently has one running back committed in the 2024 class, West Point (MS) four-star Kahnen Daniels. The Gators are looking to take a second running back commit in the 2024 class before signing day on Dec. 20.

Florida is also set to host four-star Decatur (GA) Columbia running back and Arkansas Razorbacks commit Jaden Baugh on an official visit to Gainesville on the weekend of Dec. 8-10.

Gibson is Texas’ highest-rated running back commit in the 2024 class. RB coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns also have four-star Phoenix (AZ) Mountain Pointe running back Christian Clark committed in the 2024 class.
