The final conference championship game in the Big 12 before Texas football (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) and the Oklahoma Sooners leave for the SEC in 2024 will put head coach Steve Sarkisian’s squad against the No. 19 Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-3, 7-2 Big 12) and longtime head coach Mike Gundy. No. 7 Texas is looking to complete its revenge tour in the Big 12 this season in the conference title game if it beats Oklahoma State this weekend.

Oklahoma State is the one team on the “revenge tour” that the Longhorns didn’t get to play during the regular season. With the new Big 12 scheduling this fall, which includes the four new additions to the conference (Houston, BYU, Cincinnati, and UCF), Texas didn’t get Oklahoma State on the regular season schedule.

It seems fitting that the Longhorns face Gundy and the Pokes on the final stop on the revenge tour before leaving the Big 12 for the SEC in 2024. Oklahoma State has been one of the bigger thorns in the side of the Longhorns in recent history in the Big 12, as the Pokes are 6-2 against Texas since 2015.

Oklahoma State also won the last two matchups against Texas in 2021 and 2022.

Moreover, Texas looks to have a decisive edge against Oklahoma State regarding talent, depth, and athleticism in the Big 12 Championship Game. Texas has NFL talent all over the place on the two-deep. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, had to gut out its nine wins behind the efforts of the leading rusher in the FBS, sophomore running back Ollie Gordon II.

Texas has many more paths to victory in the Big 12 Championship Game than Oklahoma State. But this is still an Oklahoma State team that has given Texas all sorts of fits under Gundy. While this might be the best Texas team Gundy has faced at Oklahoma State in the last decade, the Pokes will still throw everything they have at the Longhorns in Arlington this weekend.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as No. 7 Texas faces No. 19 Oklahoma State in the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, on Dec. 2.
