The Moody Center was rocking yesterday morning when the Texas women’s basketball team welcomed elementary students from across the Austin area for the annual 40 Acres Field Trip game. They were ready to see why the Longhorns are ranked 10th overall right now in women’s basketball.

Senior guard Taylor Jones put on a show for the kids as they won 112-74 over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Let’s take a look at some of the key players from today’s game and why the Longhorns won so big against the Golden Eagles.

Texas women’s basketball recap: Reason why the Longhorns won yesterday

Let’s start with the number one reason the Longhorns won, rebounding. They outrebounded Oral Roberts 46-28 on the boards. With the way the Longhorns dominated on the boards yesterday, it was no surprise that they won by 38 points.

The other reason they won was Oral Roberts had no answer against Jones yesterday. Jones finished with a new career high of 27 points. She made all of her field goals and only missed two free throws.

Texas women’s basketball key players: Taylor Jones

As I mentioned above, Jones had the best game of her career as a Longhorn. She dominated on the court from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer. The Golden Eagles didn’t have an answer for her all game. The Longhorns will need her to have a good game this Sunday against UCONN.

Texas women’s basketball key players: Madison Booker

Freshman forward Madison Booker has been improving each game so far this season. She recorded 17 points and two rebounds. Booker will be a player that the Longhorns will need to be consistent when Big 12 play starts soon. If she can continue to improve during these non-conference matchups, she could be in the running for the Big 12 Freshman of the Year Award.

Texas women’s basketball Preview: Sunday against No. 11 UCONN

The biggest non-conference matchup that the Longhorns have on their schedule is against the UCONN Huskies at the Moody Center this Sunday. Even though they are down Azzi Fudd and Jana El Alfy for the season, the Huskies are still a good team. Paige Bueckers is healthy and if you don’t guard her, she will make you pay dearly. Make sure you tune in on Sunday to see the Longhorns take on the Huskies.
