Texas Football: 5-Star UF S commit schedules UT official visit

Among the top remaining priorities for Texas football in the 2024 recruiting class late this fall, the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety/Florida Gators commit Xavier Filsaime has continued to communicate with safeties coach Blake Gideon and the staff in the last couple of months. Filsaime is Texas’ top remaining safety priority in the 2024 class before signing day in a few weeks.

Gideon and the Longhorns have chipped away at Filsaime’s commitment to Florida since Texas offered him in early October. Filsaime made an unofficial midweek visit to Texas last week, which showed how much progress the Longhorns made in this recruitment in the short time since they offered Filsaime.

It also helped Texas’ case in this recruitment that Florida fired defensive backs coach Corey Raymond last week. Raymond had a good relationship with Filsaime, one of Florida’s leading recruiters for the elite DFW-area defensive back.

After the midweek unofficial visit last week, Texas has pushed to get Filsaime back to campus for an official visit before signing day on Dec. 20. And it looks like that effort on the recruiting trail to get Filsaime back to campus for an official visit this month has come to fruition.

Horns247 reported on Dec. 1 that Filsaime will take an official visit to Austin from Dec. 8-10.

Texas in a good spot for Filsaime a few weeks before signing day

Texas could very well be positioned to get the final visit from Filsaime before signing day on Dec. 20. The Longhorns are reportedly neck and neck with the Gators in this recruitment in its final stages this fall.

The Georgia Bulldogs, USC Trojans, Oregon Ducks, and SMU Mustangs have all hung around in this recruitment in the last few weeks. But Texas is reportedly the school with the most buzz to flip Filsaime if he backs off his commitment to Florida before signing day.

Filsaime is among the top two DB priorities for Texas in the 2024 class late in the cycle

A little under three weeks before the start of the Early Signing Period, Filsaime is among the two top in-state defensive back priorities for the Longhorns in the 2024 class. The other is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black.

Black was originally set to announce his commitment on Nov. 29, but that date has since been pushed back to Dec. 13 due to a scheduling conflict at Connally High School and other factors.
