Big 12 Football: 4 potential transfer destinations for OU QB Dillon Gabriel
NC State
A potential out-of-the-box idea to consider for Gabriel’s next landing spot out of the portal this offseason is with head coach Dave Doeren and the NC State Wolfpack in the ACC.
NC State is another Power Five program seeking a potential starting quarterback in the portal heading into the offseason. Since NC State is losing the former Virginia Cavaliers transfer and super senior quarterback Brennan Armstrong due to exhausted eligibility after this season, and talented sophomore MJ Morris entered the portal this week, the Wolfpack need a starter in 2024.
There are a few reasons why a potential landing spot such as NC State theoretically makes sense for Gabriel, outside of the obvious that the Wolfpack needs a starting quarterback next year.
First, NC State runs a spread-style offensive scheme that benefits from a quarterback with dual-threat ability. Gabriel fits the offensive scheme because he’s played in spread systems before and is an elusive quarterback with Power Five experience.
Second, NC State is an appealing offense to play in right now. The Wolfpack are a solid starting quarterback away from being an ACC title contender in 2024. NC State has a big-time playmaker in the receiving corps in ACC Freshman of the Year, breakout wideout Kevin Concepcion. And the Wolfpack defense is one of the best units in the ACC.
The fit and potential to contend in a Power Five conference makes a landing spot such as NC State an interesting idea for Gabriel out of the portal this offseason.
