The third defensive back from the Longhorns to enter the transfer portal this week is the former blue-chip recruit in the 2022 class from Aledo (TX) High School, Allen. This second-year safety played just three defensive snaps over two games for Texas this season.

Allen got in the game on defense for the Longhorns during garbage time late in the opener on Sep. 2 against the Rice Owls and in the finale on Black Friday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Since he hasn’t played over four games during either of the last two seasons at Texas, Allen will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop out of the portal.

Allen was Texas’s highest-rated safety commit and the second-highest-rated defensive back (behind Little Elm corner Terrance Brooks) in the 2022 signing class. He was rated as a top-150 prospect nationally out of high school in the 2022 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking.

Along with wide receiver, tight end, defensive line, and edge rusher, safety was already a position of need the Longhorns were bound to address in the portal this offseason. Texas also needs to add numbers at safety in the 2024 class via high school recruiting.

Texas is heavily prioritizing the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety, and Florida Gators commit Xavier Filsaime on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class heading into signing day on Dec. 20.
