The last of the late-cycle offers are getting sent out to rising targets of the 2024 Texas football recruiting class a couple of weeks before the Early Signing Period begins on Dec. 20. The most recent offer Texas sent out this week was to three-star Magnolia (TX) athlete and Utah Utes commit Hunter Andrews.

Texas and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks officially offered Andrews on Dec. 6.

Texas football reportedly looking to get 3-Star Utah ATH commit Hunter Andrews to campus for a mid-December official visit

Andrews’ recruitment has heated up late in the 2024 cycle after Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies offered him in the last couple of months.

Texas and Texas A&M have reportedly (per Orangebloods) both pushed to get Andrews to officially visit their campuses before signing day in a couple of weeks. Banks and the Longhorns reportedly are working to get Andrews scheduled for an official visit to Texas from Dec. 15 to 17.

Texas offered Andrews as an LB/TE

While most of the major recruiting services list Andrews as a running back, the Longhorns offered him at linebacker/tight end. He plays running back at Magnolia High School.

But the 6-foot-3 and 215-pound Andrews has the frame, blocking ability, and hands to play tight end at the collegiate level. He’s also got the versatility, size, and ranginess to play linebacker.

Texas hasn’t taken any linebacker commits in the 2024 class. The Longhorns were working to flip four-star Texas A&M Aggies commit Tyanthony Smith and five-star Georgia Bulldogs commit Justin Williams earlier this fall. But both wound up sticking with their commitments in the last month or so.

Banks and the Longhorns do hold one tight end commit in the 2024 class in Houston (TX) Langham Creek three-star Jordan Washington. But Texas is looking to add more bodies to the tight end room entering the offseason since they could be losing one or more players at the position to the NFL Draft next spring and potentially the transfer portal.

We’ll continue to monitor the status of Andrews’ recruitment with the Longhorns for updates in the coming days.
