Princely Umanmielen, EDGE

Another high-profile edge rusher target to watch for the Longhorns in the portal is the former Florida Gators senior Princely Umanmielen. The top-rated edge rusher transfer in the portal, according to the 247Sports Composite, has emerged as a potential target for the Longhorns.

There are conflicting reports out there regarding whether the Longhorns have officially offered Umanmielen. It does appear that Texas has at least kicked the tires on the idea of pursuing Umanmielen in the portal this offseason.

Considering Texas’s pursuit of Moore in the portal this week, it would make sense that the staff at least shows interest in Umanmielen. But the numbers could start getting pretty tight at the EDGE position heading into the offseason if things go well with Moore during his visit to Texas this weekend.

From the perspective of talent and fit at Texas, pursuing Umanmielen makes a lot of sense for the Longhorns, too. Umanmielen is one of the highest-upside defenders in the portal among graduate transfers this week. He’s a lengthy and athletic 6-foot-4 and 255-pound edge rusher who can play with his hand in the dirt or stand up coming off the edge.

In the last two seasons at Florida, Umanmielen has emerged as the Gators’ best pass rusher. He’s led the Gators in sacks in the last two seasons with over a dozen.
