The highest-priority flip target for Texas football in the 2024 recruiting class a couple of weeks before signing day on Dec. 20 is the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety and Florida Gators commit Xavier Filsaime. Texas has made Filsaime’s recruitment a top priority after they threw their hat into the mix late in the cycle.

The Longhorns officially offered Filsaime in early October, roughly six months after he committed to Florida. But Texas has made up a ton of ground in this recruitment, effectively chipping away at Filsaime’s commitment to Florida in the last couple of months.

Texas football starting to trend for 5-Star Florida S commit Xavier Filsaime after an in-home visit this week

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and safeties coach Blake Gideon went in-home with Filsaime on a visit earlier this week. This comes as the Longhorns have really put the pressure on head coach Billy Napier and the Gators late in the cycle to flip Filsaime’s commitment.

Filsaime made his first visit to the Forty Acres unofficially on a midweek trip a couple of weeks ago. That midweek unofficial visit was a sign of Texas seriously threatening Florida to flip Filsaime’s commitment.

Filsaime set to make a return trip to Austin next weekend

Just a few weeks after his midweek unofficial trip to Texas, Filsaime will make a return trip for an official visit to the 40 from Dec. 15-17. Texas will get the final in-person visit from Filsaime before signing day on Dec. 20, which could give this staff a major edge in the closing stages of this recruitment.

It’s always a big advantage to get the final in-person visit with a recruit as important as Filsaime before signing day.

Texas starting to trend to flip Filsaime’s commitment from Florida

Texas holds the momentum in this recruitment heading into signing day in a couple of weeks. Sark and Gideon going in-home with Filsaime before his official visit next weekend will give the Longhorns many opportunities to put the full-court press on to get him to flip his commitment from Florida.

As this recruitment continues to trend in Texas’s favor late in the cycle, Inside Texas’ Eric Nahlin entered an On3 RPM pick, projecting Filsaime to flip his commitment from Florida to the Longhorns.

Florida is reeling on the field and the recruiting trail late this fall

Napier and the Gators are struggling to keep things together on the recruiting trail heading into signing day after a disappointing season on the field this fall. After missing out on bowl eligibility this year, Florida’s 2024 class has started to fracture amid questions of coaching stability and the future direction of the program.

Texas already flipped one blue-chip defensive back in the 2024 class from the Gators this fall, four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack. And the Longhorns are trending toward being able to flip another blue-chip defensive back from the Gators’ 2024 class if it can finish strong on the recruiting trail with Filsaime during his official visit to Austin next week.
