Xavier Filsaime, S (Florida commit)

Hands down, Texas’s top remaining flip target in the 2024 class is the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety and Florida Gators commit Xavier Filsaime. The No. 2 safety recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is also the highest-priority recruit at the position before signing day on Dec. 20.

Texas has made real progress, chipping away at Filsaime’s commitment to the Gators, despite the Longhorns offering him late in the process in early October. This staff has benefitted from questions surrounding the direction of Florida’s program on the field and the recruiting trail after head coach Billy Napier and the Gators failed to reach bowl eligibility this fall.

Florida’s 2024 class has also fractured in the last couple of months, losing multiple blue-chip commitments to other big-time Power Five programs.

Texas appears to hold the momentum in this recruitment heading into signing day. Sark and safeties coach Blake Gideon went on an in-home visit with Filsaime and his family earlier this week.

Filsaime is also set to take an official visit to Texas next weekend (from Dec. 15 to 17). That means Texas will get the final in-person visit with Filsaime before signing day on Dec. 20, which could give them a major leg up in this recruitment in its closing stages.

In the last few days since Sark and Gideon went in-home with Filsaime, Texas has started trending to flip his commitment from Florida heading into the Early Signing Period.

A decision will come from Filsaime before or during the signing period in a couple of weeks, as he’s expected to be an early enrollee during the spring semester.
