The first portal wideout expected to visit Texas this week is the former Purdue Boilermakers redshirt sophomore receiver Deion Burks. We mentioned the various reports on the site earlier in the day that Burks will visit Texas and Oklahoma this week.

Burks is expected to visit Norman to see head coach Brent Venables and the Sooners this coming weekend (specifically Dec. 15 and 16).

No specific date has yet been reported for Burks’ visit to Austin this week. But he is anticipated to see Texas before the end of this coming weekend.

Texas and Oklahoma are the two schools with the most buzz in this portal recruitment. He’s also reportedly considered the Michigan Wolverines, Oregon, and USC, among the other schools he’s communicated with since entering the portal last week.

Burks is among the top portal wideout targets for Sark, wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns early in the December transfer window. Texas is also targeting the former South Carolina Gamecocks senior Antwane “Juice” Wells Jr. and potentially the former Houston Cougars sophomore Matthew Golden (once he officially enters the portal) among transfer receivers in the portal.

The fit for Burks at Texas makes sense in multiple regards. As Purdue’s leading receiver from this season, Burks proved how speedy and elusive he is out of the slot in the passing game. The 5-foot-11 and 195-pound slot receiver led the Boilermakers in targets, receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns, and yards after the catch this fall.

Texas needs an impact slot receiver to replace redshirt senior wideout Jordan Whittington, who is declaring for the NFL Draft next spring.
