Texas Football: Quinn Ewers tabbed as early 2024 Heisman candidate
Redshirt sophomore Texas football quarterback has emerged as one of the most improved and proficient quarterbacks in the Big 12 this season. He’s led Texas to a Big 12 Championship and the program’s first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff in just his second season as the starting quarterback.
And Ewers is expected to return to Texas for another season in 2024. He is already being viewed as one of the top early Heisman contenders for the 2024 campaign.
He was tabbed by Brad Crawford of 247Sports as one of the top early Heisman contenders to watch for the 2024 season.

Crawford mentioned the recent reporting from various outlets that Ewers is “leaning” toward returning to school for another year. Assuming he returns to Texas next season, Ewers would be the incumbent starter in a loaded quarterback room for head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Ewers was listed among a bevy of SEC quarterbacks whom Crawford tabbed as early Heisman contenders for the 2024 season. Other SEC quarterbacks included on this list by Crawford are LSU’s Garrett Nusmeier, Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, and Georgia’s Carson Beck.
Two Big 12 foes of the Longhorns this season, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II and Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels, were also mentioned among the early Heisman contenders for the 2024 season.

Ewers has set new career-highs this season in pretty much every major statistical category for a quarterback. He’s registered over 3,100 passing yards, 26 total touchdowns, and six interceptions. His efficient output in the passing game this season has resulted in Ewers leading the Big 12 in completion percentage (70.7) and ranking second in passer efficiency rating (162.2).
