Per On3's Hayes Fawcett, four-star 2026 Melissa (TX) offensive tackle Max Wright has committed to Texas football. Wright announced his commitment to Texas over the SMU Mustangs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Michigan Wolverines on social media on Wednesday morning.
Kyle Flood and Texas football kick off 2026 OL recruiting with 4-Star in-state OT commit Max Wright
Wright is the first 2026 recruit to commit to the Longhorns since the New Year. He is the third commitment for the Longhorns' 2026 class, and the first along the offensive line in the trenches.
This comes after Wright took multiple trips to Texas since last offseason, including for the first big Junior Day of the 2025 offseason on Jan. 25.
He told Horns247 that the Longhorns building the relationship with him so early in his recruitment was a crucial factor in his decision to commit to Texas today.
"I'm choosing Texas because they've been the first ones to recruit me and they've believed in me since the start. And I'm always welcomed by the players there."Max Wright
Kyle Flood and the Longhorns were one of the first P4 schools to offer Wright during the late July pool party/BBQ bash visit last July. Texas is looking to take at least five or six offensive linemen from high school recruiting in the 2026 class.
Wright, at 6-foot-8 and 310 pounds, fits the mould of the "big humans" that Flood and the Longhorns like to recruit in the trenches for the SEC along the offensive line.
The big human and tremendous length and wingspan Wright brings makes him an ideal high-floor developmental recruit for the Longhorns to add depth and size for the 2026 class.
Wright needs a bit of refinement, working on his pad-level approach and hand usage. He can develop over two or three years to polish his fundamentals and push for a spot on the two-deep at offensive tackle for the Longhorns.
His upside gives him the chance to be a really valuable contributor along the offensive line in the SEC for Flood and the Longhorns in the trenches.
Texas looking for a big in-state haul at offensive tackle for 2026
I wouldn't imagine that Flood landing a commitment from Wright at offensive tackle in the 2026 class hurts Texas's chances with the other top priority in-state five-star OTs this offseason. Elite in-state offensive tackles John Turntine III and Felix Ojo are still very much in play for Flood and the Longhorns for 2026.
