Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner will be the best RB duo in the Playoff
What won the day for the Longhorns against Clemson yesterday was the production of the ground game duo from Wisner and junior running back Jaydon Blue. Texas was able to rely on the ground game and some balance from the offense with solid game-management and a good game script for Ewers and the head coach Sarkisian to beat Clemson.
Texas rushed for nearly 300 yards on 48 carries (over six yards per carry) with four rushing touchdowns and no turnovers.
Not only did the Longhorns rush for a season-high 292 yards on the ground against Clemson's defensive front, but no running backs fumbled the ball in a game for the first time in the past five weeks.
Wisner came out of the gates hot, with over 100 rushing yards in the game's first 35 minutes, including a couple of key rushing touchdowns in the first half.
After Wisner suffered an injury in the middle of the game, Blue took over in lockstep for the breakout sophomore running back in the second half. Blue had multiple explosive run plays, including one rushing touchdown for 38 yards and another one for a career-high of 77 yards in the fourth quarter.
In the first round of the Playoff, Wisner and Blue were the two leading running backs in terms of rushing yards. Wisner and Blue both rushed for at least 110 yards and multiple touchdowns to really help the Longhorns wear down the Clemson defense.
It doesn't sound like Wisner's was anything that forced him out of the game completely and that Sarkisian mostly turned to the duo of Blue and true freshman Jerrick Gibson in the second half for precautionary reasons.
